21 November, 2015

It's been a long while

I said I'd check back often, and I have, I just couldn't bring myself to continue to say "Don't worry, guys, it'll be soon, still working on it!"

I am still working on it, that part is true.

It just won't be in a position to be finished for a long while now... financial issues abound and I still am barely managing a roof over my head, my medical issues have continued to decline to the point that it took me forty minutes of proof reading (of thoughts and spell correcting) to type this many words to make sense, and coding continues to get harder as my mental facilities worsen from my medical issues.

I've been avoiding any contact with pretty much anyone right now.. I'm a wreck mentally and socially, and I do not wish to ruin any friendships or partnerships I have acquired. I pray that what I have put on hold will remain on hold, and that when the time has come that I can become well again, we can resume and post up this fantastic game.

'Maybe a certain character creator can be released on my birthday' is the thought that runs through my head as I write this, and it brings a smile to my face. Ideas are written down, pages upon pages; they just need to be coded and typed. Things are ready to roll, I want to reiterate that, I just don't have the mental facilities to do so.

And since this is my game and my world, I don't feel right, nor do I want to, give this to anyone else to do for me. Tin Foil MklV was making Alteratio WITH me, which is the only reason they were on the project. They wanted to be apart of hte vision, and they brought so many great ideas and inguniuty to something that I hold dear. And we both got what we wanted out of it, so it was mutually beneficial.

So, I wish this process could go faster so you all can enjoy what Alteratio has to offer sooner, but this physical body just wants to dictate what I can and cannot do.

I apologize with great sincerity about the time it took to update you all, and about the current state of the game... 5 months is a lot to lose hope in a game, and I'm sure I've destroyed everything I had up until now.

It was good while we had it, but I'll always be here whenever you feel like checking in :)

[Well, it finally happened] - Weekly Update #24

So, me and Tin were going to release the Character creation Edition of Alteratio today, but Sunday I had something completely life-changing come up. Now, before you get your pants in a bundle, know this:

I WILL NOT QUIT WORKING ON ALTERATIO.

I WILL STILL BE WORKING ON ALTERATIO.

Maybe not as much, and maybe I might have to take a break, but Alteratio will be a game soon.

Now, for the news...

It looks like I won't be having a roof over my head nor internet for who knows how long. I have this to deal with for the next however long, but because I haven't been able to land a job for quite some time (among other factors from everyone else) we are losing the house.

Sadly, this changes a lot, and I made the personal decision to delay the release of the Character Creation. Why? Because I can't in good mind tease something that might not happen for a while. I'd rather come back and right away post up Character Creation (and some extra additions, hopefully, since this current version).

My apologies everyone, but this has been something building up for a while, and I am sorry for the inconvenience it has brought everyone who has been following this game / wanted to play it!

I'll do my best to hang around on the blog, but I can't guarantee anything at this moment in time.

Game On!

[Just a Few More Days..] - Weekly Update #23

This is going to be a relatively quick one, but here's the sitch:

Since Sunday I've had stomach Flu (which means I haven't worked much on it, doing this is a strain in itself), but I'll be working on it no matter what from Wed-Fri,

Tin Fol MklV is having some minor computer issues (which is an additional reason why we can't work today, Tuesday).

All that is left is -

  • {Format for Perks} (Which we already know)
  • {Format for Backgrounds} (Which we already know)
  • {Format for Description} (A combination of all other categories, just a matter of tinkering)
  • {Writing Stuff} (Currently Races, Classes, Aspects, Talents are complete. Description, Perks, Backgrounds are left to do!)

I still believe that we can release by Friday, but I gotta see what the other half thinks.

Technically it might be better to release it on Monday next week, then I can do the weekly update, several polls, and hand the game out all at once. We'll see.

UPDATE:
We agreed that a Monday release would be better to give ample time to make sure that all bugs are crushed, minimal spelling/grammatical errors are present, and that we don't feel rushed or pressured to do things RIGHT!

Monday Release! Expect a lot of Polls!

[WE-ARE-SPEED!] - Weekly Update #22

Back into the fold for the normal, everyday week! Lot's was done, but it can be summarized in a very simple sentence:

We're almost done with character creation after a total of 9 hours of work.

You heard it! Everything I've been struggling to do, been wanting to do, and ideally wanted done has been accomplished, or we have it in our sights (Tin Foil MklV is a beast at coding! Teaching me how to code better while we do it as well.) is finished or so close to being finished for Character Creation that it's made a complete fool of my previous work which we can all forget (hopefully).

How well are we working together? How the hell are we doing it so quickly? How much longer till a release? What all is/isn't done? Updates about things and mechanics in general?

Well, you'll have to click below to find out!

Slight Delay

There is so much to talk about and not enough time in the day!

That, and a knife decided to break itself into my hand, leaving a gash that may need stitches that I can't afford, so typing is a BIT slow at the moment - I'll do my best to get the weekly update up ASAP.

[Things are about to get real!] - Weekly Update 19, 20, & 21(Next Week!)

So, first off, I need to once again apologize - some major things transpired in the past few days starting from Saturday, and during the past few days I thought I might be up to the task of doing things for Alteratio, but I fell immensely short of all standards due to two things, one major and one that caused my delay in the first place.

The wonderful news that I had to delay was because of me having to confirm that the plans that I had were going to happen!

After a long discussion and a few days time of thinking about it, a fabulous person named Tin Foil MkIV is joining the making of Alteratio! They stepped forward after I posted my first 'public' version of the game (how little there is) and actually sent me several improvements and successfully did what my poor coding abilities could not (what I had originally intended to do).

I won't talk about our arrangements since we both agreed this is a 'trial' period that we'll be attempting to work on this, but the basic rundown is like this:

We'll be talking about how and what we want to implement while I am here on Vacation (If you still don't know, I'm in Finland with My Love right now and I'll be leaving, hopefully, the 20th of May) and when I return, we'll be working on Alteratio once-a-day together, coding and typing simultaneously live with each other via Skype.

If things work out, they work out! But if not, nothing is lost and Alteratio will continue to grow at the slow rate it currently is!

Want to hear the personal, sad reason? Read on! Otherwise, scroll down a bit after you click 'Read More' and I'll give you an update to my tentative schedule for the next little while.

Quick Update and a half

Sorry again for the delay in everything - some awesome potential things came up concerning the future of Alteratio, and after I tie-up a few-loose ends, I'll make an announcement!

It'll be awesome guys :P

Should be up in around Saturday/Sunday range, as well as a basic schedule for the next few days (since stuff happens during this next week).

05 May, 2015

Quick Update

Sorry for the delay in both the Update being up and the Weekly Update post: Some things came up that have to do with Hospitals and My Love, and that takes some priorities over this :)

We're currently home, so I hope to have SOMETHING up within 24 hours.

So, no need to worry, I just needed to announce my apologies and reasoning for my absence ^.^

[This is going to be a LONG week] - Weekly Update #18

Sorry for the delay - I had a busy day since this is a busy week in Finland (I'll get to more on that below)! Also, there is a crap-ton I wrote, and I had to make sure that I got this done in a timely-manner, so I didn't type EVERYTHING.

So, I finally decided against my precious better judgement to allow EVERYONE to play the game. Now, while this is a good thing for multiple reasons, it also carries it's negatives, and I feel compelled to list those for you, so you all know what I now get to deal with from this decision:

Positives:

  1. Publicity! People get to know about this game, tell their friends, and gather a following so people can enjoy this game in the future when there is more content (similar to when Corruption of Champions started out!)
  2. Feedback! I get the input from the entire community of 3 websites (at least) about ideas, submissions, suggestions, bug-finds, thinks that are liked/disliked, so-on and so-forth! This will help improve everything about the game, and make you, the player, feel invested and want to play more!
  3. Free(dom)! I don't have to limit you all from playing - you can all play to your heart's content, until you get bored of testing a particular thing BESIDES the previously planned idea of just letting you play the first 'edition' of each Phase and allowing access to a select few.

Negatives:

  1. Publicity! Alteratio will come across as an incomplete game to those who don't know anything about it, they will not play again, and tell anyone else who shows interest in Alteratio to back away from 'that crappy, incomplete game'.
  2. Pre-determined impressions! Some people think that if something is in a game, it WILL NOT CHANGE. And because it will not change, or lacks something that appeals to them, they quit and never return, also informing everyone to avoid Alteratio. [Alteratio is a game made by both me AND you, so YOU have the power to change it! Just say the words :)]
  3. Haters! People will come along to troll me or the game simply because they don't like me and Alteratio - it'll demotivate me and will slow the progress of the game sometimes, if it gets bad enough. I have 3 communities, so it can easily happen.

So, I felt that the benefits out-weighed the negatives, so we'll see how it goes.

For more information  especially pertaining to the state of the game and it's direction, please continue to read-on!

27 April, 2015

And so it begins!

Public release! Woooooo!

Thank you all for waiting patiently - everything is up and running as far as I know!

We'll see how long it takes for things to catch on fire ;)

On a side note - it's 5 A.M. and I don't quite feel up to writing my Weekly Update right now, so I'll do it when I wake up!

Please be patient!

I don't want people to begin ranting and raving after I posted on 2 more websites (and the the avid reader on the third) about not being able to play the game! (Yes, for those who don't know, I threw up my arms and said that a community game should be played by the community!)

I am in the process of updating what I have left for the public to see, and posting it up along with my weekly update of the blog. It (Alteratio - the game) should be up here in the next few hours (what little there is!).

Thank you all for the views, and I hope you don't mind waiting just a BIT longer :)

[Alchemists, Templars, and Bards Oh My!] - Weekly Update #17

Hello! Welcome to weekly update #17 (you can read that as hash-tag 17 for you twitter peoplez).

This week's theme:

Other things I thought about & Character Classes!

So, before I dive headfirst into this, I do need to mention a few things -

I have a HORRIFIC memory! I try my best to write down my thoughts, especially about Alteratio, but even I (Oh yes, I'm afraid I'm human!) sometimes don't write things down - Why do I bring this up? Because this is one of the few things that I didn't write down.

Another thing: I don't 'rehearse' my blog posts on here - I write what I think and feel, and what I want to get across to you all. I do not look over everything I have written 15 times and then make a post - I just glance for grammatical errors and hit post. I don't like censoring information to you all, and I want to come across as a fellow human being who has a large aspiration to play Games of all sorts as well as a complete newb game-maker who dreams big and does sub-par work.

I hope that what I wrote above to you indicates that I don't just make this game for 'showz' or to float my own boat - I'm just a person trying to do something I want to do, failure or not! ("Failure is not an option!" - Old High School Slogan)

Now that that is out of the way, about my character creation....

I'm going to make you click a button first, so, after you click it, feel free to read all about it! I'm evil.

17 April, 2015

[I said I'd never stop working on this!] - Weekly Update 13 to 16.7

I'm afraid my absence was out of my hands this time as the inconvenience gods have once again stricken at the aligning of the failure - due to my most recent assurances, I've managed to gather some wards to fend them off, at least for the time being!

I don't know how to apologize, but I'll lay out some things I've been thinking about for the long term for Alteratio.

So, the story thus far...

Right after Weekly Update #12 (16th of March) I was beginning to fill in the RP details of the Character Creation. I had managed to get a good portion of it (10 Classess, 8 Races) when my computer started going bonkers. So, to prevent a disaster like last time, I went to immediately save what I had to my dropbox - in the process of saving, the entire computer crashes.

No big deal, I thought, until I saw smoke coming from my computer tower... apparently my power caught aflame and in the process it fried my mother-board and processor. Fun times! $300+ of repairs that need to be done.

I access the dropbox on my phone (yayz) and found that the file was corrupted... I'm upset, but still no big deal since I had also saved it to my USB (just an earlier version, before I fixed the reset button).

Ooh, and to top it off? WHILE I'M TYPING this to the blog to keep you guys updated, I run out of Data on my phone AND the internet cut out for a long time (yes, god these were a shitty 2 weeks).

[Screw You, RESET BUTTON] - Weekly Update #12

RAWR!

UUUGH!

GIBBLE-BLARGIN!

I am soooo angry with Quest!

So: Good news first -

Character Creation in 98% finished on the tech side! Woohoo! Stat distribution, points remaining, current totals, and current selection of perks, descriptions, etc. are operational! Quite literally, only one thing is missing.

The Character Creation Menu turned out better than I had hoped - it doesn't feel clunky and hardly glitched (at least for me, we'll see how it fares for you all, and if you like the format).

And I also managed to display verbs describing your stats! Screw numbers (for the most part - what numbers that remain are up for debate for you all when I release this out: it'll be one of the main things I'm looking for input on)

Now, the bad news:

The 'Reset' button, the one that reverts any changes to stats that you wish to redo / perks you want to modify / description you would like to change, fails to work no matter what I do - I've even consulted several people on the Quest Forums and I've followed what they have said to 0 success.

One good thing did come out of it - I have figured out how to do a variable, which will allow me to expedite things when I get to the Transformation phase, which will increase/decrease a lot of stats.

I know people won't like it, but I haven't accomplished much on the CONTENT side of things - I think it completely and utterly silly to write words when I can't even get the mechanics working.

So, goals for this week:
1) Work on a large chunk of content for the Character Creator
2) Get the dang RESET button working!  Done! Finally!
3) Attempt to do a public release of the first prototype of the Character Creator by next Monday.

[Getting Back On Track] - Weekly Update # 9 & 10

My Sincerest Apologies for not posting anything last week - I was in the hospital for a few days and didn't have the chance to post! If I had my phone, I would have, but I didn't get the chance to bring it with me as it all happened abruptly!

Otherwise, I am about 85% better! I've been ACHING to do some work on this, and have figured out around 15 things out, 3 of which are major and that I'll share with you:

1) Dynamic Character Creation!
I think I can do it! The main thing I've been having problems with is the 'Format String', remember? Well, finally figured out how to make that work and I can now display stats! And it's as easy as snapping fingers to change those stats!

The only thing I have to -toy- with is the [Points Left] display, which shouldn't be too hard now that I learned an additional function to display the stats that should work!

The 'thing that can make me do this' is a simple symbol:       !

It basically says [Please insert current value of whatever I want called], so its just the matter of being able to make sure I can call that value, which "should't take to long."

2) Different Character Creation Menu!
I love how the current character creation works, all chosen from one menu, but if you screw up one thing (or something fails on my end) then it glitches the entire game out - happens rarely, but still happens none-the-less.

So, I'm changing it to a 'room' that you click/type which option you want to do - I feel this makes it a bit more organic and less prone to 'mess-ups'. It'll all still be menu based.

Didn't Understand (DU): 2 things are changing: Besides 1 big menu, you'll click/type which menu you wish to access. Also, the 'Finish Character Creator' will be actually leaving the room with a few confirmations to make sure you are done - no more mis-clicking on a menu to finish character creation! And hopefully less glitches.

3) Screw Numbers!
Again, I'm "Pretty sure I can do this", but I'm confident that I've also discovered how to do another major feature in Alteratio - besides saying You Have 5 Strength, I can convert the numbers into verbs for you to read, for example You Have Pathetic Strength.

These are the three major things that I thought out, and what is impeding me from finishing the basics for the character creator - If I feel as good as I have been or even better (One Can Hope), I'm hoping to have these three things done my next week. I'm still taking it easy, but if I get carried away in making Alteratio (which I might) more things can be done!

I also decided that when I get a decent character creation made, I'll make THAT version of the game public (which means I have to post that on multiple new sites... uuuuuugh).

Also, every MAJOR update will also be made public.

I feel super pathetic having only 10 or so people checking this a day, expect when I post these weekly updates (then it goes up to 30! :D). I know that I was cranking along when I had the visual of a lot of people looking at my blog when I did my big reveal, and I hope that happens again soon - more people just visiting my blog daily, or even weekly so that I can stay motivated and work quicker!

Also, I know many people think it's crazy or even utter shenanigans, but:

I'm posting up my own personal PHONE NUMBER under the contact list.

"But Taylor! Why are you this crazy?!" Because I am crazy, silly! I belong in a straight jacket!

In all honesty, I am a person of communication - and if people somehow prefer to TEXT me or even CALL me (I don't endorse prank calls, but if you do such a thing, know you'll be blocked :P) then I feel people should be allowed to. Especially since we are in the 'Smartphone Age'.

It is a USA number, so please be aware of that if you do call. I do have Unlimited Minutes and Text on my end, but be aware that I will NOT cover anything for you, no matter the reason. You were the one who wanted to talk/text to me, so all you.

I'm available to call 24/7, and if I don't catch you, then just leave a message ^.^

[Completely Useless] - Weekly Update #8

Poll results:

It looks like I'll be focusing on placing bigger updates out more often than not (maybe every Monday?), but I will still do small updates/hot-fixes in the meantime.

Also, since we want more 'buttons', I'll have to work around a few things and try to make things more 'button' like - aka, more clickable things. Take a bit of time to convert what I have, but it should end up with: drop-down menu choices, click-and-instantly-happen 'hyper-links', and the ability to type it all if you so choose.

Now, before you red anything below....

I AM STILL WORKING ON ALTERATIO!

I WILL NEVER QUIT WORKING ON IT!

This is not me saying things are 'delayed' or not going the way I planned. Just what is going on!

Okay, so I went to the ER (Emergency Room) for lack of breathing issues - it turns out that pneumonia the doctor diagnosed me with was actually Bronchitis, and since it's been developing for longer than normal I've been on some heavy-duty antibiotics and haven't been able to accomplish anything - even doing this is a strain, and I know I'm a day late for posting the weekly update.

My goal is to have SOMETHING up by next Monday, no matter how minor, but in the meantime I'm going to try and get better so I can go back to working 10+hours a day on Alterato!

I miss working on it, and have been hankering to do it - too many ideas in my head I need to write down for background, classes, perks, and a whole lot of other things!

New Poll(s) and Poll Results #1

<----- TWO of the most important polls for Alteratio that will ever exist are RIGHT THERE! VOTE, DANG YOU!

Okay, so let's talk about some results and what they mean for the Future of Alteratio, and I'll also discuss the Self-Explanatory Polls here - nothing will be updated in Voting Information.

New Poll #1:

Do you prefer slow, large updates or quick, small updates?
Again, this is self explanatory, but I really need to know this - I know some people will prefer one over the other. I felt it a necessary evil to ask this, because I want to know what you all expect of this game. What you expect of me. So far, it has been really neck and neck the entire time its been up.
You're all equally divided as I am on what to do!

It'll be closing Monday at Noon MST.

New Poll #2:
How do you want to play Alteratio?
Yup, very self explanatory, but I've been getting a lot of people stating this several over and over:

"I don't mind typing games, but I feel that I always have to search for things to do, and am unsure on what to type at some periods of play."

I've stated several times that I will be putting a 'verb dictionary' of all of the actions you've discovered in an easy to spot place while you play, so you can figure out what you can and cannot do.

I /think/ I can make it all button clicking, but it will take considerably more work (which I don't mind!) and I don't know if I will be able to make things 'secret' as well. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

I do know that the more buttons I make, the more I have to map every single unique thing you can do out - which is both good and bad :)

This is to see interest, and I may/may not do another poll in the future. We'll see.

Go on, you know you want to...

[Back In Business!] - Weekly Update #7

<---------- One of the most important polls on the website is RIGHT THERE!

Anyway! Internet is up, and no more typing on that crappy phone! Huzzah! (And typing on a keyboard feels really awkward now, lol!)

Doing finishing touches on the Blog now (adding a few things to the Wiki also) as well as updating the posts I have on the forums!

As for the state of the games:

For Alteratio: Again, I'm amazed I've done this much with only your moral support guys! *Free Hugs for everyone!* I am a first-time game developer, and I've coded in C++ with minimal knowledge about 4 years ago when 'MUDs'(Multi-user-dungeons) were still somewhat popular.

Now, as it currently stands, I have it figured ALL out how to do dynamic menus with a point buy-system. I'm only hung up on one thing, which is testing and playing around with a thing called 'Format String'.

Still Here and Working!

Just a quick update:

Sorry its taking so long to update the website, any creative energy I have goes into making the games, and I feel drained after 3 hours of that.

I caught Pneumonia with my flu,  and it's kicking my butt*. Sleep deprivation with constant coughing and trips to the bathroom doesn't make the most creative person, especially on a stupid phone.

I have the coding for Alteratio 'figured out', I just need to get it to work Now!

As for the disability game, I am about (was) 35% finished with it.

Don't worry, I didn't vanish :)

[Slow and Steady] - Weekly Update #6

Wow, this was such an awesome week!

~I got FLOODED with comments (We have 193 when we started with 0!)
~At least 20-emails were sent to me
~The Game Concept seems to have been well-received!
~Added several FAQ questions
~Best of all... Got the beginnings of the game!

Thank you ALL so much! Your interest is what is motivating me to make this awesome game faster than I anticipated! Let's all hope that it lasts, right? :P

Now, I'm going to be honest - Yesterday and Today(it seems), I've been sick with the flu. I got literally nothing done yesterday, and I fear I won't either today. But, I WILL re-update all of the information I presented here on the site and the other pages I've spread throughout the internet (TFGameSite mostly).

I'm hoping that by clarifying and stating my intentions, what I expect out of the game, and the things that I want to do, we can all be on the same page, and you can all know if you really do want to play Alteratio - A Dungeon Beyond Worlds!

So, be on the look-out today as I slowly update EVERYTHING through my phone! My fingers are so going to hurt after this. [x_x]

Also, funny thing for everyone! Here are all the 'reviews' on Alteratio so far! Some are compliments, and some are really silly. You might know which ones I'm talking about ^.^

At least we all know that you can review NOTHING! Valuable lesson learned.

There is a LOT more to read! Click the READ MORE button below!

06 February, 2015

So, the good news first?

My new phone can connect to the internet! Yay! That means I can post anytime, comment to anyone, and reply to e-mails I receive (as well as Skype pokes!) Out of curiosity, I even found out that I can access and update/play the Online Version of Alteratio!

Badass! We have Mobile Play! :3

Bad news - The internet company stated that they would be shutting my internet off on the 10th of February due to my household and I not paying the bill on time (so our punishment is just ^.-). They Lied [typical] and turned it off today... they said it would take a week for them to turn it back on BEFORE they did this (that would have put me being back around the 16th / 17th), but now I have 0 Idea when!

(Winne-The-)Poo! :(

I still have Quest, and I'm still working on the game, I just won't be able to post up a version for everyone to try until then - which means that you should be getting version 0.0.2 - 0.0.3 when I get back! Lots of things is good, right?

05 February, 2015

Online or Offline? - Result & New Poll(s) to be watching for!

We'll be switching to the OFFLINE version temporarily until the Online version updates to the full capabilities that the offline version has!

This doesn't change much of anything except that I can continue going forward and START to make mechanics! Expect the beginnings of an (outline) of the character creator, where it gives you stats!

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but know that when Online has the things I need to preform all of the functions I need to do, we'll be switching back to that! I know that some of you have something other than Windows Operating System, and I would love to appeal to everyone!

I personally hate having to download multiple things, so I feel the pain of those who also dislike it (especially just for a not-really-much-of-an-update like these have/will be for some time)

And so, we persevere!

----------------

As for the new polls that will be coming out soon....

04 February, 2015

In less than 24 hours, I managed to get 9,000 views, at LEAST 2,000 of those unique.

I'm totally speechless!

I didn't know this would be so popular when I've, literally, only talked about this game - those who have Early Early Alpha Access know that nothing but a Menu is done, lol!

I'm glad people are interested in this game, and it makes me all giddy thinking about it!

As Celebration, I'm letting the first 15 people who reply to this post access, if they so desire,
to Early Early Alpha Access!
[13/15 taken as of 3:30 AM MST - Feb 06]

To expedite things and so I do not forget you, if you are commenting to get access, please either contact me through one of the methods in the Right-Hand Margin, or leave contact details in your comment.

I'll be sending out Version 0.0.1B out later today, so be on the look-out! I update the Patch Notes page as I finish tasks, so you should know what to expect!

For easy information as to what version is posted up, please look in the upper-left margin for the current version that is out!

Thanks everyone!

Also, something special I want to share with everyone...

First Edition: Released!

It's super crappy, super fresh, and super simple with lots of placeholder text! Get em' while their hot!

In all seriousness, it really isn't nothing at all. Don't know why I'm getting all of this hype from everyone for just talking about ideas that no one has seen yet. But, we'll see how long this lasts!

Thanks everyone for making my views 6x what they were before in a matter of 10 hours!

Be on the look-out for when we hit the 10,000 mark, I'll give some more 'Early Early Alpha Access' keys out in celebration!

If you think I forgot you when I sent them out, please post below and state where & when I stated you'd get it! I got overwhelmed today by a great many people, so I can make mistakes! My apologies in advance.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, post below or in the FAQ/Comment Section!

Thanks everyone!

You guys are the bomb!

It is my dearest apologies that I haven't been answering every single comment and/or submission right away at this moment - I have received over 3,000 views within the past 4 hours! That's 4 times more than I had before I posted this game - so I'm having to update everything like crazy, respond in a timely fashion, AND develop the game all simultaneously.

It's a bit of a juggle fest, but totally worth it!

So, I'm not ignoring you guys, but it's just taking time on my end.

To expedite some things, post a way to contact you when you do a submission or FAQ question! (unless you prefer to contact me when you see me reply "contact me!")

Thanks everyone! You're so awesome and have made me wear this big, dorky, goofy smile all day. And for some reason everything on my game has been that much easier....

On the Quest! & Early Early Alpha Access

Okay! I scavenged the internet some more, and found something FAR better than Inform7:

Quest!

It's the same exact thing as Inform 7, but it makes my job 100,000,000 times easier due to the way the information is presented, and the community there is great to boot! I posted some question and got then answered within 2 HOURS with very intricate, thorough answers!

I've already almost completed character creation within a day, compared to what took a week on inform just to get the 'outline' done.

And the best part - it should work on any operating system/ computer! I can make the game play online, similar to a HTML or Twine game. No downloads required! (Unless Requested, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.)

After I get a bit more done on it this morning, I'll be sending what I've done so far out to those who have Early Early Alpha Access!

Because I'm so CRAZED excited, the first 10 people who comment on here will also Early Early Alpha Access! Just comment here, contact me in some way (Contact information on the right side of your screen) and I'll give you the link!
[10/10 have been taken as of 3:10 MST]
No more link to this game are getting sent out by commenting!

If you are still interested in joining Early Early Alpha Access, please look HERE for information.

Game ON!

[Bad News Bears] - Weekly Update #5

Well, I figured I'd start labeling what each weekly update should sound like, add a bit more flavor than just keeping the same, stale "Weekly Update".

That's the good news.

Sadly, the bad news outweighs the good: While saving my last update, where I finished the basis of the menu for character creation (none of the description were in it, but the functionality was there), I was saving it and uploading it to my OneDrive (my back-up) when my computer got infected with a virus (OR something, still trying to figure it out).

I ended up with the blue screen of death, and computer crashed, corrupting my files of the game. I lost everything! (Ragey-Sad-Face)

So, I'm just going to take the day to recover from this 'hiccup' in the game development process, and possibly look into a few more systems I didn't consider before. Inform and me don't mix well, but I don't know what all can do what I want to do that's free.

For those who will be getting Early Early Access, I'll be sending you what I have tomorrow for whatever system I design.

Weekly Update #4

Holy Cow! Its been a month?

Dang, time keeps on slipping in to the future! (Hope someone at least gets this reference!)

Anyway, about the game:

Game started getting funky with me with the HTF (Hunger-Thirst-Fatigue) system, and besides spending too much time on a single thing (because then we all know you get frustrated and unmotivated and possibly waste time!) I have began working on the Character Creation and Map (Technical side, not graphics) of Castle Rahkuin with the descriptions (copy-pasted in!)!

The Map is really easy and pretty much done (just got to make sure moving around 1000+ times won't make it glitch out!) but the Character Creation process is being a pain in the butt!

It's going to be a menu similar to Aika's TrapQuest, but its going to have the option to go back to the core menu and allow you to go back to the main menu to choose whatever order of character creation your heart desires. This is the thing, apart from the HTF system, that will be both the most important and hardest settings to program for the 'Release' of the game. Pretty much has soon as I get these into a non-buggy state, I'll probably release the game shortly after.

Why am I doing the HTF system right off the bat, before there really is a need to do it? 2 reasons:
1) I feel that if this is me presenting the game and all of its 'features', it should have all of the core mechanics in place to start to know if you guys like it or not.
2) This IS the tutorial area I'm making in this release, and the most proper time to teach you all about HTF.

I am so speechless! I'm glad that my game matters that much to some people to either continually refresh the page, view it to see no updates, or I actually have a following!

Thank you all! <3

Normally people have a reward for such a thing.. I don't have any thoughts rights now, but I'll think of something!!

P.S. If you don't know already, at the bottom of each post on the main page, there is a 'Read More ' button to finish the article. On my end, its showing up as people NOT viewing the article at all (about 15 on average for all posts). Don't know if its blogger acting weird or not, but just to make sure that everyone is getting the full update, it's located here:

The post will look like this:

Blah Blah Game Stuff.....
Blah Blah Blah Coming Soon.....
Blah Blah Blah Blah Play The Game......

Weekly Update #3

Well, I'm 3 hours late, so what! I totally have a good reason for it:

I was trying to finish making my Hunger, Thirst, Fatigue (HTF) System become reality with colored bars in Inform! Still working on it as we speak, but I got most of it done! Here's a list of everything I've done in the past week:

  • I used ShadowChaser's Basic Characters as a basis, since I'm uber new to writing in inform (or anything for that matter other than C++), made some modifications, and deleted everything else I don't need.
  • I've wrote down some notes for later (as in, when I get a Random Dungeon) on how to possibly make a 'Willingness To Escape' (WITE will be the WIP Acronym for now) stat that will never be seen, but will pop up in messages such as
"As you experience more of the wonders here, you conclude they you don't need to leave right this instance."
  • Still deciding how I want the UI to display, and where to display it. My ideas so far:
The Map (Similar to  Aika's Trap Quest) will display in the upper right.
The HTF will display at the top horizontally.
Your statistical information will show on the left such as AMP, Race, and (Custom?) Class.
Current description of your appearance will appear on the Right, under the Map
  • Make the Map! See a small copy of it below (Not big so you don't know how to get through the Maze :P )

Weekly Update #2

Wow, 2 weeks already? How time flies by!

On that note, here's what I've discovered so far in my venture to make this game happen!

  • For making my own Custom Game Engine, I did a lot more research into what programs I could script and write this in, and have it narrowed down to two:
                   Adobe Flash Player   OR   Java
Yes, I know I said I wouldn't touch Java, but what I had meant to intend to say what that I don't want it to be a .jar file. I always have problems with those, and from what I can gather, a lot of others have problems as well. Either it works wonderfully or doesn't work at all. I dug a bit deeper and found out that you can, through some awesome programs, convert the .jar file into a Windows Executable file, or for those less technically inclined, a window similar to when you open a folder on your computer. It automatically will do all the background java stuff for you, and tell you if you need the latest java, and give you a link to go download it!
  • Well, considering that I haven't had anyone talk either here or on the Forum Where It All Began, I'm thinking that I'm losing a crowd because I'm either doing 'more talking than walking', I haven't got anything tangible to hand to people yet, or people just aren't interested in this game at all, for whatever reason.

In an attempt to gather some more followers (to start my own cult of course!) I'll be making the first versions of the game using Inform 7, the other engine that I was considering using in place of my own. I'll still be making my own system, but with something tangible to put in people's hands, I hope I can hook them in and get some more support to make this awesome game!

Weekly Update #1

Well, considering that I hadn't really done anything to make a noteworthy update in the past few days, I spent all of my time today writing up stuff so I can actually POST about something! Otherwise, I would have posted much earlier in the day.

Yet another Guide (4 Now!) to introduce you into the world. I'll give her a description below, which also raises a few questions (And will hopefully provoke comments!)

Also, the voting system I put into place seems to be working so far. 11 votes on the forum to determine which system I'll be using (I'm expecting it to raise up here shortly after we recover from the holidays!) and the two polls on here are doing fairly well, considering the time they've been up and how often I get viewers (which might be the same 3 people, or more than that! No way of telling!)

Prep-Status of the Game! Voting Season!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Thanks for the 300 Page views so far! I feel so special to do something that has garnered that many views in a matter of 2 weeks and 1 post! Quite an amazing feat, I think! Now, its time to make this place booming more!

So, some of my new year resolutions involved Alteratio, and I wish to share those with you to make this place more livelier and to ensure you all that I am working on this!

  1. I will be weekly posting a status of my Trials & Tribulations or What am I working on Right Now or Where The HELL Have I Been every single Monday!
Yes, Monday, the beginning of the week. So, after you enjoyable weekend which I have been gruesomely working on Alteratio, you'll wake up to see that a game you enjoy is still progressing!

Good way to start off a slow Monday, I think!
