Weekly Update #2

Wow, 2 weeks already? How time flies by!

On that note, here's what I've discovered so far in my venture to make this game happen!

  • For making my own Custom Game Engine, I did a lot more research into what programs I could script and write this in, and have it narrowed down to two:
                   Adobe Flash Player   OR   Java
Yes, I know I said I wouldn't touch Java, but what I had meant to intend to say what that I don't want it to be a .jar file. I always have problems with those, and from what I can gather, a lot of others have problems as well. Either it works wonderfully or doesn't work at all. I dug a bit deeper and found out that you can, through some awesome programs, convert the .jar file into a Windows Executable file, or for those less technically inclined, a window similar to when you open a folder on your computer. It automatically will do all the background java stuff for you, and tell you if you need the latest java, and give you a link to go download it!
  • Well, considering that I haven't had anyone talk either here or on the Forum Where It All Began, I'm thinking that I'm losing a crowd because I'm either doing 'more talking than walking', I haven't got anything tangible to hand to people yet, or people just aren't interested in this game at all, for whatever reason.

In an attempt to gather some more followers (to start my own cult of course!) I'll be making the first versions of the game using Inform 7, the other engine that I was considering using in place of my own. I'll still be making my own system, but with something tangible to put in people's hands, I hope I can hook them in and get some more support to make this awesome game!
As for progress on the game material, not much except for more typo-corrections and grammatical fixes so it all looks nice and neat in the first release! I think 4 guides is plenty and I'm not planning on making anymore quite yet.

The areas are looking spectacular (to me at least!) and I'm really trying to immerse you with as little wording as possible. Why? Because, more than half of any RPG is imagination, and I don't want to make you feel confined or restricted in how you imagine the scene or area you are in. Character's, however..

The point of the game is to get Transformed, right? Then why am I not being as vague with the character models (NPCs and PCs) as I am with the scenes and areas? The point of the game is survival and to retain yourself, and I know a lot of players choose FOR their characters what they do, not the other way around. That's not a problem at all, but I want this setting to feel 'alien' and 'uncontrollable' so that it prompts pro-activeness to become what you want, besides just plopping it down in your lap. And for those who really play their characters and are immersed (like me), then you get the awesome ride and thrill of having to deal with everything happening to you, because YOU DON'T DEFINE YOUR APPEARANCE. You're a malleable substance for Alteratio to mes with, and messing with your body might even screw with your head. You're almost a prisoner of sorts, trying to fight against whatever is holding you in your cell. The end question is:
Do you really want to fight it?

As for the polls, I think I'll let them run their course (I'm tired of taking down polls, only to post them back up again shortly thereafter), but ultimately these current polls will happen again. All of the current votes that are in place right now will count as 'double' during the next poll, to honor the few who have voted up until now. Ex. 6 votes in one option right now will make me add 12 to the next poll.

As I finish writing up this last piece, I am preparing myself to begin to learn Infrom7 and write the beginning of the game. Next time you see an update, it will be on all of the things I've managed to do in Infrom7 so far!

Wish me luck!
