Hey everyone! I was doing my best to finish the website (It'll be an all-in-one revamp at the same time besides trickling it in) by Friday, but some RL got in the way (who would've thought), and I didn't have much to talk about since I am still trying to regather all of my notes from memory.
It's my bad for not saying 'nothing to see here!' because it makes people feel like I disappear, and I don't want that to happen again. Even if it's a 'I Exist!' post, please be expecting that :)
Anyway, as for the website, I will FOR SURE have it finished by this weekend, wiki and some basic FAQ included as well as a checklist of things to go into the next release.
Speaking of next release, as I rebuild what I had before (movement, basic NPC interaction), I'm focusing a bit more of my time on a smaller, quicker game that's set in the world of Alteratio with a VERY similar system.
Where Alteratio is a LONG-TERM game, meant to be played for hours and hours, this other game, Alteratio - Multiplayer Transformation Fight (A MtF) is intended for a cooperative experience that is SHORT-TERM. I intend to release this game before Alteratio since it is far smaller in scope and easily done for coding (apart from multiplayer, which will be the hardest thing).
I'll talk more about it after I tell you all about how Classes will work in Alteratio!
Basically, the feedback I've received from long ago is that classes feel restrictive since you are along a 'predefined' path... on the other hand, with some new feedback I've received, having SOMETHING to strive for, or even having something to 'ground' yourself to that makes it easier to relate or pick up right away.
So I'm offering a 'triple system' as I'm calling it. I'll touch a bit more about this, but basically the idea is to have premade characters (ones that people specifically request to be in the game/will have special options for just them - possible high-donation tier reward thing), fully customization character creation, then the in-between of the two prior.
The medium area - you can choose an 'archtype' to give you an idea and set of goals, some unique capabilities, but at the same time make progressions somewhat slower for non-class skills since you're specialized in being, for example, a wizard.
The full customization area is that you get increased experience gain for most things, a master of none but doer of all.
While you play, after reaching certain requirements, you can unlock Achievements(tentative name) that unlock classes for you to play - you can be, I'm currently thinking, 2-3 classes at a single time, each with their own unique interactions and 'special abilities' they have access to unlike any other Class.
With this system, people can start off with a leg up on becoming the best wizard in the land, even striving for Archmage class (or some equivalent) or even multiclass into a spellsword or anything they want! Or you can start off as a blank slate and play things as they come, letting your decisions and transformations mold you into a class or few that you happen to end up being.
That's classes! Simple in thought, but with the amount of classes I wish to add to the game, there will be a LOT of things to be done. My end-game goal is 200 classes (or so), not necessarily having them all 100% unique (for example, only so much can change from going from Apprentice Mage to Mage to Court Mage to Archmage, or if I make specific lines for Fire Mage to Inferno Mage to Infernal Flame Mage if you have some demonic corruption, etc.) but all of them having their own flavor of play. Classes should be something to AID your play, not force you to play a certain way, which is why I'm offering the free-form way. I also understand that the entire world isn't extremely creative or superbly imaginative, so having the choice to set you on a path is also necessary.
Did I strike a good balance between the two? Does this sound appealing? I haven't got any feedback on anything posted yet, so I'm hoping silence is a good thing! Perhaps this Friday when I make all of this in easy-to-read format we can talk some more~
Next time I'll be talking a bit more about what I've done with the website, go over a schedule with you all, more about A MtF, and the biggest groan and cringe thing to talk about (but it has to be talked about because either people will be wondering or will complain later on when it's out of the blue) is how I want to do Patreon.
Till then, thank you all for your continued support and visits! <3
